Su Ann is our LLB graduate of 2007. Through Crescendo, Su Ann, and all other students (Ong, Gary Ng, Azizah, Goh and others) received PTPTN loan and were able to realise their dreams of studying for a law degree.

Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (LLB)

The Bachelor of Laws from University of London is one of the most prestigious law degrees in Malaysia and around the world. It is the only OVERSEAS law degree which can be completed ENTIRELY in Malaysia and is recognized by the legal Profession Qualifiying Board in Malaysia; thereby, qualifying its graduate to sit for the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) exam and become a lawyer in Malaysia.

UOL law graduates are not limited to practising in Malaysia; its international recognition allows its gradutes to practise as lawyers in Hong Kong and United Kingdom (upon satisfying the local qualifying board of the respective countries).

Apart from practising, many law graduates have also chosen to venture into other careers such as being a tax consultant, a legal corporate executive, a journalist, a customs officer, a police officer, a bank executive, a lecturer, etc.

Crescendo's first batch of law students graduated in 2007. Ever since then, we've been producing law graduates. Some of them are lawyers now, some doing chambering in KL & JB, some furthering their masters overseas and some joined the commercial sector as bank executives, lectures, etc.
 
 
MQA Accreditation
On 20 Feb 2008, Crescendo attained MQA Accreditation for the law degree programme. With MQA Accreditation, Crescendo's students can enjoy the following benefits:

(1) the law degree is recognised by the Public Service Dept (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam); therefore, our law graduates can work in government depts. & agencies,

(2) our law student is eligible to apply for the PTPTN loan [Note: Most students are on PTPTN loan. From 1 Jan 2010 onwards, PTPTN loan is only for courses with MQA Accreditation.]

 How to qualify as A Lawyer (or more specifically "An Advocate & Solicitor in Malaysia")

In general, a University of London LLB graduate can qualify as an advocate and solicitor (i.e. be admitted to the Malaysian Bar) by the following methods, subject to other requirements *:

  1. Sit for and pass the Malaysian Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP), OR
  2. Pass the Bar Vocational Course in UK.
1. Malaysian Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) Examination

Entry Requirement:

  • 2 Passes at A-Level (or STPM) + 3 Credits in SPM (or UEC). (All A-Level passes and SPM Credits must be obtained in one and same sitting of the examination respectively. The A-Level shall be studied in a minimum of 1 academic year),
  • Complete the LLB degree within 4 years upon successful completion of the Intermediate (i.e. the first 4 Units) examination,
  • Take 12 law units which must include the following 6 core-units: Law of Contract, Law of Torts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, and Equity & Trusts, AND
  • Must obtain at least a Second Class Lower
 
2. Pass the UK Bar Vocational Course through any of these Inns of Court:
  • The Inner Temple
  • The Middle Temple
  • Gray's Inn
  • Lincoln's Inn

WHAT IS CLP AND HOW CAN I APPLY TO SIT FOR THE EXAMINATION?

CLP is the abbreviation for Certificate in Legal Practice. CLP examination is conducted by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia by virtue of the Legal Profession Act 1976 once every year. In general, LLB graduates from overseas such as UK, Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand will need to sit for and pass the CLP examination as one of the requirements to be admitted as advocates and solicitors in Malaysia.
